The English test that opens doors abroad
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) checks how well you can listen, read, write and speak in English. It is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP and Cambridge, and is accepted by thousands of universities, employers and immigration departments in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Ireland and Europe.
At UniLife Abroad, IELTS coaching is part of your full study abroad plan. We first check your level and the score your target universities ask for, then build a study plan that gets you there, while the same team handles your admission and visa.

IELTS Academic or General Training?
Both tests have the same Listening and Speaking sections. Reading and Writing are different.
IELTS Academic
For bachelor's, master's and PhD admission at universities and colleges abroad, and for some professional registrations. Reading and Writing use academic topics, charts and graphs.
IELTS General Training
For work, training programmes and migration to countries like Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Reading and Writing use everyday and workplace topics.
IELTS for UKVI
The same test taken at an approved centre, needed for some UK visa applications, such as certain courses below degree level. We tell you if your course needs it.
IELTS test format at a glance
The full test takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. Speaking may be on the same day or within a week.
| Section | Time | Questions | What it tests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening | 30 minutes | 4 parts, 40 questions | Understanding conversations and talks, ideas and opinions |
| Reading | 60 minutes | 3 passages, 40 questions | Reading for main ideas, details, opinions and arguments |
| Writing | 60 minutes | 2 tasks | Task 1: describe a chart or write a letter. Task 2: an essay |
| Speaking | 11 to 14 minutes | 3 parts | A face-to-face talk with an examiner: questions, a cue card and a discussion |

Ask an expertWhat is the best way to prepare for IELTS?
Start with a level check, learn the format and strategies for each section, practise every question type and take timed mock tests. Regular feedback on your writing and speaking makes the biggest difference.
How long does IELTS coaching take?
Most students prepare in four to eight weeks, depending on their current level and target band. Your diagnostic test helps us set a realistic timeline.
Which IELTS should I take for study abroad?
Take IELTS Academic for university admission. IELTS General Training is for work and migration, and IELTS for UKVI is only needed for some UK visas.
What IELTS score do I need to study abroad?
Most universities ask for 6.0 to 7.0 overall, often with no band below 5.5 or 6.0. Top universities and some courses ask for more.
What is the IELTS exam fee in India?
The IELTS Academic and General Training test costs ₹18,000 in India, IELTS for UKVI costs ₹18,250 and the One Skill Retake costs ₹12,000. Fees can change, so check when you book.
Is computer-delivered IELTS easier than paper?
The questions and scoring are the same. The computer test gives faster results, usually in 1 to 2 days, and many students find typing the essays easier.
How long is the IELTS score valid?
IELTS scores are usually accepted for two years from the test date.
Can I retake just one section of IELTS?
Yes. With One Skill Retake you can retake one section, such as Writing, within 60 days of your test, if your test centre offers it.
Do you help with university admission after IELTS?
Yes. The same team that coaches you also helps you choose universities, apply, and prepare your student visa.
